Kelsey Leach
Litchfield, CT

Certified Science Teacher-13 years strong

Hello! My name is Kelsey and I was born and raised in Connecticut. I attended The University of Connecticut and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in General Science and a a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I have been a full time science teacher for the past 13 years for middle school and high school, in which time I have taught a variety of subjects, which include Integrated Science, Biology, Forensics, Geology, and Earth Science. I love to go on road trips, hike, bike, fish, swim, go boating, practice my photography, and talk to lots of new people. I especially love learning about how the history of a region is impacted by it's environment and geology. It is always an exciting moment when I look at the world around me and realize how long ago the rocks were created, how old the trees are based on the industry that used to be there and really "see" the landscape for what is and used to be. I especially enjoy tutoring because it allows me to focus in on one student and meet their individual needs. It is exciting to see that spark that students get in their eyes when they finally "get it!" Tutoring allows me to tailor my lessons and activities to the student so they can learn at their fullest potential. It is especially rewarding to have students come back to see me and talk with enthusiasm about a topic or experience in connection to our science lessons, chats, or activities. I am very passionate about students becoming life long learners. They may not love every science topic, but it is important to me that they see the science connection in their every day lives no matter how big or small it may be. I want students to feel that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to and teach them strategies to be successful.

Grace Orjichukwu
Aba, Abia, Nigeria

Experienced elementary educator

Hi, I'm Grace, a graduate of Sociology from the University of Port Harcourt, and my journey into education took an unexpected turn during the 2022 teacher's strike. Faced with a community's need, I stepped in to teach Primary 6 students, an experience that ignited a deep passion for guiding young minds. Living in Aba,Nigeria, I'm immersed in the vibrant culture and diverse experiences that shape our community. Outside of teaching, I'm passionate about reading local literature, exploring nature reserves and participating in community development projects. These experiences enrich my understanding of the world and inform my teaching, allowing me to connect with students on a deeper level. What I love most about tutoring is seeing the "lightbulb" moment – that spark of understanding when a student grasps a new concept. It's incredibly rewarding to witness their confidence grow as they overcome challenges. My tutoring philosophy centers on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions and explore. I believe in tailoring my approach to each student's unique learning style, using real-world examples and culturally relevant scenarios to make lessons relatable and memorable. What makes me "me" is my resilience, adaptability, and genuine passion for education. My experience during the teacher's strike taught me the importance of resourcefulness and creativity in teaching. I'm committed to bridging the gap between academic concepts and real-life application, fostering a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom. I aim to instill not just knowledge, but also critical thinking skills and a sense of curiosity that will serve students well throughout their lives.
